About Masifunde Learner Development

Masifunde Learner Development sponsors motivated but disadvantaged children in South African townships by means of comprehensive and future-oriented education programmes. The sponsored children are capable of using their potential and becoming mature, critical, responsible and active citizens. Thus, they have opportunities for a better future and for ending the circle of poverty.  We try to achieve these goals by establishing educational sponsorships that support the children to access education in high quality schools outside the townships. All sponsored children participate in an extra-curricular programme including a daily homework club. 

Moreover, Masifunde has introduced an extra-curricular support programme „Learn4Life!“. This programme brings sponsored children and learners from township schools together to participate in topical youth group meetings and weekend workshops. Thus, the programme aims to train role models and multipliers and promote social as well as life skills within and outside the groups. 

The charity organisation Masifunde is under the auspices of the Federal Minister of Justice Brigitte Zypries. In South Africa it is registered as a Section 21 company (Reg. No. 2009 / 004539 / 08, Date of Incorporation: 04 / 03 / 2009). While most team members volunteer only the key positions for the co-ordination of our programmes in South Africa are full-time jobs. This garantees both a sustainable workflow and a responsible use of funds. Therefore we can guarantee, that more than 95 % of the donations go directly into the project work with our children.

Youth work 2007

In Bensheim Masifunde and his chairperson Jonas Schumacher were awarded the prize for extraordinary social commitment in South Africa.
